Covid19

It’s been a week since we were all confined at home for covid 19. I suppose writing about it is important because we may have forgotten everything that we endure once everything is over. It is unfair for us to forget too easily. This few weeks would be our battleground against ourselves. We need to be at home for quite a number of days. with nobody but our loved ones. Some may have to stay alone, others have to be confined in the hostel while our saviours, the ones that we called the front liners are fighting for us at the hospitals and on the road. The days seems long and the night feels cold and lonely. We as social animals feel trapped in this situation. Working from home seems to be alien to some... Working while fulfilling the duty as a mother, is definitely not easy. One has to be able to prioritise on their responsibilities. To the job that feeds the family or to the family that needs feeding. Other than that, many are challenged with the lost of income, lost of jobs even....

Masak Lemak Pucuk Ubi Tumbuk (Pounded Tapioca leaves in spicy curry)

This is a recipe we have in our family for years. My mother made it, my grandmother and her mother made it. Their version may be different but i suppose the essence is there. This is a recipe that you would not find in any shop or restaurant. If u want it u have to make it yourself. I love this dish and once he tasted them my husband also love this recipe. So here is the recipe. The fancy name for it would be pounded tapioca leaves in spicy curry, or we call them ‘masak lemak pucuk ubi tumbuk’. Why do we pound the tapioca leaves? I dunno but I suppose since you’ll mix them with other ingredients they’ll taste better that way. Ok moving on to the recipe. What we need: Tapioca leaves (daun pucuk ubi) about 10 stalks 1 cup pea eggplant (terung berembang / terung pipit) 1 - 2 ginger torch flower and the inner stem (batang dan bunga kantan) Pound all the ingredients together. Cook in a gravy that consist of 7-10 birds eye chillies 5 shallots 1 cup coconut cream 2 cups of wa...

Write all the recipe for me...

As always, we had a chat on the way back from school. The girls were hungry and asked what's for lunch. Well, since mummy was at home in the morning I've prepared a simple lunch for us. Masak tempoyak Ikan (fish in fermented durian gravy) and  kacang botor goreng (fried winged beans) for mummy and daddy, fried chicken, fried fish and chicken soup for the kids. "Wow! So delicious mummy..." Mentioned Athiya. Then my little darling Alana said, "all mummy's cooking are delicious. When I grow up can you write all the recipe for me so I can cook delicious food like you?" Well my dear, you just know how to please me...as always. Insya Allah, when the time comes I'll teach you all that I know. I might not have the orange and torn recipe book like your late grandmother, but I'll make sure I jot down all the recipe that I know and especially those that you enjoy eating here in my blog. For you guys to see and maybe to refer to when I'm gone. InsyaAllah...

In My Little Corner of the World

I always love the oldies that people older than me would always found it weird since some of the songs that I listen to are way too old. I used to have a friend who shared the same interest in the oldies. I remembered when we used to exchange walkman (well... I was born in the 70s right?) and we listened to songs that we love with serious faces. my friends used to tease us since we were too serious looking when we listened to the songs that we like. I guess the melody and the lyrics are so simple that we could enjoy the music as well as understand the meaning of the song at the same time. Well it's been a while since I browsed through my songs collection. I do need a little lift me up these few days therefore I've been watching some old dramas that i used to love. This song was played on the series finale of Ed (another favourite of mine). It seems like this could be my new favourite song. I dedicate this song to my loved ones as they would be the ones who are welcomed to my ...

The High and Mighty...Lecturer????

Had a chat with my students just now. I was telling her about my experience and how I think a lecturer is just another human being and it would be good if they could actually be a good friend as well. I suppose that was just me since the students said that their lecturer would always put themselves 1 step higher than a student. For them being a lecturer is something huge... something magical that only the selected bunch can be... Well, that might be true... especially if u are teaching witchcraft and wizardry... but if u ask me.. lecturing is not much of a difference if u compared to other jobs. The difference may lies in how you hold the position and what do you do with ur position. Being a lecturer is about teaching, motivating and showing the students a better way in life. To do that... u need to give good examples... u need to gain respect and of course u need to get close to the students... To do all these does not mean that u will hang out with the students at all time... it do...
