my mom's sambal tempoyak

I know most people eat tempoyak raw. Some will mix the tempoyak with cilipadi. There also those who love masak asam tempoyak or masak tempoyak with all the veggies in it. Well i love my mum's sambal tempoyak. It is super easy to make but very tasty.

U only need some chillies (big n small), some shallots n tempoyak, turmeric leaf n salt n sugar. And some dried anchovies. How to cook? So easy.

U mix n blend chillies, shallots and tempoyak together (the quantity depends on how spicy or how sour u want ur sambal to be. Normally for a dish for 4 people i use a tablespoon of tempoyak, 2 big chillies n 5 small ones n about 2 shallots. Heat the wok, Fry around a handful of dry anchovies drop in the sambal mixture and mix with the anchovies. Put on the turmeric leaf as well. If its too thick add some water. Make sure it is not too watery. Cook n simmer till it has the right consistency, put some sugar n salt to taste. N it is done. Can't wait to taste.

My Sydney (Kingsford)

My first time boarding a flight is to Sydney Australia. Never in my wildest dream to cross the oceans to live outside Malaysia for one and a half years. But it happened.. It really did happen. I was young then. Just graduated the year before and worked to fund my IELTS examinations and other preparations before flying off to the Wallabies Island. It was quite a terrifying thought as the furthest that I've been on my own was when I took the express bus to Perak to attend an interview. I remembered the day before. We had a small feast at home. Organised and prepared by the villagers. I was considered the first who went abroad at that time and in a way became the pride of the village. It was overwhelming to see how high was people expectation towards myself.  The day we left for Sydney I didn't know what to expect. Being a control freak I've checked out the university's website for more than 10 times. I even printed all the information that I thought may be useful (bus / ...

Our love nest...

We moved in to our houseabout a year ago. It was around two weeks before Raya. At first we thought of making it our holiday home since my husband still had his contract as hostel fellow in UNIMAS. But once we stepped in to the house we know immediately that this is our place. And we decided to move in straight away. There's a story behind the house actually... As other couple plan properly how they will b uy their house and how they are going to finance their house etc., it is a totally different case for me and my husband. It was one morning not long after we got married. It was Saturday and we were driving to a mamak stall for breakfast. Suddenly we saw some signs saying about new housing area called Muara Tuang Park. My hubby suddenly asked me to get the phone number of the company. At breakfast we discussed the possibility of having a house of our own. After breakfast we went straight to the developer's office to check out the price and all... there and then we decided tha...

Just write...

Someone told me that I need to just write. My feelings, my experience, my travel, anything... Just write them down... Make a schedule and find a time. Don't be too critical on yourself or you won't even start... That would be almost the same message that I've given to my students. but I suppose for a different purpose. To my students I ask them to read and write a lot. Just practice writing as much as you can. You may start shaky and you'll be rereading and rewriting what you've written, but practice makes perfect. writing helps you clear your mind. Writing sharpens your delivery skills for your assignments... Anyway, I hope this is a start. the beginning of a scheduled blog post. I hope I can share a lot with people (well not really).. But I guess what's important is that I'm sharing... perhaps in the future, if there are things that I've forgotten I may be able to look back into my notes and perhaps there's life events that I would cherished in...
